The Rules of War

The casino game of War is no doubt the easiest card game to play in the casino. If you ever played War as a child or while growing up, or placed bets on who could draw the highest card, then the game War will seem instantly familiar and enjoyable.

the Rules of Casino War

The game is played with six decks. Cards are ranked the same as in poker, except ace is always high. The suit makes no difference.

After the players have wagered, each player and the dealer receives one card. The players card shall be compared with the dealers card. If the players card is higher, he wins even money. If the dealers card is higher the player loses. Pretty simple, right.

In the event of a tie the player has two choices: the first is to surrender and forfeit half the bet or second go to war with the dealer.

If the player decides to go to war he must raise his bet by an amount equal to his original wager. The dealer does the same but this is just for show. The dealer will then burn three cards and give the player one card and the dealer another card. If the players second card equals or beats the dealer the dealers card then the player wins even money on the raise only and the original wager pushes. If the dealers second card is greater the players card, he loses both bets.

A tie bet is also available at some casinos which pay 10 to 1 if the first two cards tie.

Where does the house edge lay in this game? It is true that the probability of winning is 50 percent. The edge comes from the chance that there will be war, where you either win one unit or lose two. For example, when you originally bet 5 dollars you have to double your bet, risking 10 dollars only to win 5 dollars in return.
