Police mortally wounded a man and a woman who opened fire on police officers and a police chopper in southern California. The chase started outside an Indian casino and ended in the hills of the reservation
Local authorities arrived at the Soboba Indian reservation just before 6:30 pm on Monday. Police were responding to calls from guards who were under fire from the couple at a security booth outside the casino.
The bonnie and Clyde wannabes fired at police using assault rifles and then drove off into the hills of the reservation in an attempt to make a getaway. According to police the 2 started shooting at the police and the helicopter that were pursuing them.
After hitting the vehicle several times the assailant's car broke down and they found themselves surrounded by the police SWAT team. The 2 managed to keep the cops at bay for almost an hour. The gun battle ended when both suspects were shot and killed. The police have not released the names of the shooters.
None of the police or any innocent bystanders were injured.
Robert Salgado, the Tribal chairman put out the word for everyone to stay in their homes until the shooting was over. The Tribal leader was worried that the SWAT team would shoot first and ask questions latter and did not want anyone from the reservation to get hurt.
This was the second time police have been shot at and had to return fire with fatal results in less then one week after a 26 year old tribal member Eli Morillo opened fire on the police with a rifle several days ago.
