Four Chinese citizens and one Australian Woman were all found guilty in a Brisbane court for committing fraud on March 17th 2005 at one of the local casinos.
The five were charged with stealing almost $1,000,000 dollars in a 50 minute period.
The judge gave the men four years in jail and set no date for parole.
According to Queensland law the four can apply for parole after they have served at least half of their sentence, and if they receive parole they would be immediately deported from the country to China.
The Woman has been out of jail on bail for the past 18 months, with the condition that she is not to leave the country. She has had no contact with her husband or 2 children for that entire time.
The Judge said that because of this he would only sentence her to 3 years with a recommended parole date after 18 months.
Using a card substitute scam the group managed to steal an authentic casino card and use it to help set up some large pots.
The group made over $750,000, but the casino managed to stop a check made out to one of the players for $400,000 and they have been ordered to repay the remaining sum to the casino.
The police were called after an alert security guard managed to spot the scam.
