Lawmakers are working on a new bill that would give the residents the opportunity to vote whether state casinos and racetracks would be able to host table games. The proposed bill can create a long argument on expanding gambling.
The bill was introduced last week in the House of Delegates. A similar bill was proposed last year but failed to pass. According to this year bill, residents in Hancock, Kanawha, Jefferson and Ohio counties, would be allowed to vote on whether to allow poker games in state casinos and racetracks.
If a vote fails, the gambling facility owners would be able to retry to get an approval in every election period. If a vote passes, the voters influence ends there. The gambling facility owners would still have to request state approvals.
