The man police suspect accidentally started a fire in an vacant building that used to house the old Key Largo casino may just pay for his crime of attempting to steal copper from the building with his life. The man broke into the old Vegas casino around 7pm Monday evening.
The would be thief is in critical condition and doctors are not sure if the man will make it after receiving first degree burns to over 80 percent of his body. Authorities with the local fire department want this to be a warning to other would be copper thieves that stealing is not only against the law but can be very dangerous as well.
According to an investigator with the Clark County Fire department
says the victim brought his tools and his equipment and was already to steal the copper wiring from the building when he broke into the casino. Assuming that the abandoned building had the power shut off the man grabbed the wiring and he quickly found out he assumed wrong.
As soon as the man grabbed the wires he was hit with the heavy voltage and he caught on fire. Rolling around on the floor the man ignited other debris in the casino and caught the building on fire as well as him self.
According to workers at a near by business people are always seen entering and leaving the abandoned casino, and they are just glade the fire was put out before it spread to their businesses.
