The option of expanded gambling in Kansas was discussed Saturday morning in a public meeting at the Wesley Towers chapel. Lawmakers from Reno County participated in the meeting, as well as five state legislators.
The five legislators Sen. Terry Bruce, Reps. Bob Bethell, Mike O'Neal, Jan Pauls and Mark Treaster had replied to questions asked by the audience. The first question on gambling was answered by Bethel, who noted that he opposes allowing gambling in Kansas. Bethel claimed that gambling expansion would increase the number of gambling addicts and other gambling related problems.
On the other hand, Treaster expressed his support in expanding gambling. He said that since many Kansas residents gamble regularly and suffer from gambling addiction, if gambling expansion would be approved at least the community would benefit from the gambling industry profits.
