The family of Christie Wilson is suing the Lincoln casino. The casino was the last place the 27 year old California resident was seen leaving with the man who would eventually be charged with her murder and sentenced to 59 years to life in a state prison. The girl's body was never recovered.
The lawsuit was filed in October in the Placer Superior Court and a motion hearing was held last week. The next hearing is scheduled for July 8th.
The family is suing the casino for $25,000 over what the family says is the casinos lack of sufficient security. Officials for the casino are shocked and dismayed by the charges filed against them.
According to the casinos spokesmen "It is the most disingenuous, bad faith, hypocritical lawsuit that I have ever seen filed. It was Thunder Valley employees and the videotape that helped identify, prosecute and convict her killer."
The victim's mother has said that the lawsuit is in hopes it will convince the casino to improve their security. She also said she felt it was important that people know that the security at the Thunder Valley is not as sophisticated as you may think.
The casinos head of surveillance was honored in 2007 by the local district attorney for their video coverage that allowed the prosecutor to chronicle the last hours of the girls life.
According to the head of security the casino has more then 1000 video cameras throughout the casino and employs over 120 security guards, with approximately 30 officers on duty for each shift. He also said there is no finer security system then the one we have covering the casino. The system can even zoom in to read the serial number on a dollar bill.
