According to a latest statistics, Greece revenues from gambling on its most popular sports game reached 1.6 billion euros in 2004, while UK, whos much bigger than Greece, took 1.4 billion euros from its most popular sports betting events at the same year.
95 percent of Pame Stoichima, which is operated by the gaming company OPAP bets, was on international soccer games. OPAP are considering adding betting lines to domestic games.
The majority of the sports bettors in Greece are men between the age 18 and 45. OPAP plans to add more betting lines including basketball, volleyball, racing, handball and non-sporting events such as Oscar awards and the Eurovision song contest, hoping to reach wider clients.
