Bihar, one of the middle states of India, was a scene of much turbulence during one of the major Hindu festivals, Durga Puja. The man resides in Chaksaid, a small rural village located in the district of Vaishali in the middle of the Indian state of Bihar.
Locals likened the gambling away of his wife to a similar episode in the famous Hindu epic story, the Mahabharata. In that, the Pandavas are cheated by the Kauravas in a game of dice, and after losing away his kingdom, the leader of the Pandavas, Yudhisthira, bets on his wife, Draupadi. According to Hindu mythology, he loses and this starts one of greatest battles that matches those in the Greek tales about the battle of Troy.
Here too, Mr., Choudhary lost all his cash and then bet away his land while playing dice during Durga Puja celebrations. Faced with complete defeat, he wagered on his wife. Unfortunately, he lost her as well. The winner, a certain Manoj Singh, demanded the wife, Sunanina Devi, come to his quarters and stay there.
Sunanina Devi approached the village council, and they called a meeting. What they ruled was that Choudhary hand over five thousand rupees to Manoj Singh, and in exchange the wife will remain with the husband.
What now remains to be seen is whether Sunanina Devi will remain with her husband once she knows that the village thinks she's worth five thousand rupees only.
