Senate rejected a suggestion to allow gambling machines at Kansas racetracks on Thursday. The bill supporters are now looking for an alternative to fund public education.
Senate President Steve Morris, R-Hugoton said they were hoping to use gambling profits to fund public schools. He believes the proposal to expand gambling would be brought up again.
The bill included a proposal to add slot machines to racetracks and to build 2 new casino resorts. The bill failed to pass the Senate vote. Sen. Marci Francisco, D-Lawrence, a democrat who voted against casino gambling in the past, voted for allowing slot machines in local racetracks.
