The Keetoowah Indian tribe denies planning to build a casino in north Alabama. The tribe is supposed to move in the next few months to a land off Highway 11 in Fort Payne. Keetoowah Indian Chief George Wickliffe said the main reason to the move is to watch their ancestors graves which are buried in the ground.
David Hammonds, the owner of the 60 acres land, says the Keetoowah were the original residents of the land before they were forced to move out almost 200 years ago.
The Keetoowah Indian tribe already operates a casino in Oklahoma and Chief Wickliffe claims that they do not have plans to build an additional casino. He said that they are looking for opportunities to create jobs.
Alabama Governor Bob Riley and US Senator Jeff Sessions and State Representative Robert Aderholt, says they will dispute any attempt to bring gambling into the Alabama.
