June drew online sports bettors to bet on a new sports: the apocalypse date and other natural disasters. The online sportsbook BetUS.com had offered odds on an apocalypse on 6.6.06, while other online sportsbooks offers odds on the end of the world on December 23 2013.
According to Roberto Castiglioni, the founder of the online sports betting resource TheOnlineWire.com, betting on natural disasters is an old sports. He said that online sportsbooks have been offering odds on hurricanes and other natural disasters since the beginning of online gambling, but betting on the end of the world is a new thing.
Matt Ross, spokesman of the online sportsbook BetUS.com says that the forecast that sees the 6.6.06 as a potential dooms day is originated from the Bible. He says that if the year 2000 is understood as the end of the millennium, 6.6.06 might as well be understood as the end of the world. BetUS.com posted 10-1 odds for an apocalypse on 6.6.06.
According to another belief, the end of the world is scheduled to December 23, 2013. This belief is an interpretation of the Inca astrological forecasts. Roberto Castiglioni of TheOnlineWire.com has something else to worry about - "who will cash out winning bets should the world really come to an end?"
