The Palace casino reopened as a land based casino. The casino that used to be on a barge was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Now it is relocated in a hotel lobby. Larry Gregory, the executive director of gaming commission, says it is the only difference between the old and the renewed Palace casino.
The Palace casino is the third casino destroyed by Hurricane Katrina which reopened last week. The Mississippis casinos that were least damaged, are being rebuild now. The Palace is the second casino that moved from the shore to the land since the storm. It is now a smaller version of the casino that the Crosby Company operated on its barge. The hotel lobby changed its purpose from a spatial meeting room to a two floored casino hall.
The gaming commission hopes to see the Palace casino reopening as the beginning of the reconstruction of the gulf coast area that was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The Palace reopening already supplied work places to 450 employees. Before the storm, it employed almost thousand people.
