Italian television broadcasts poker tournaments from Europe and the U.S.A. after the rise of popularity of poker in the country.
Sweden, France or England used to send delegations to American poker events, such as WSOP. Other than them, one could not see any delegations from other European countries. However, this year there will surely be Italian representatives.
Italy has been added to the list of countries mad about poker. This game is getting so popular in Italy that TV channels broadcast poker tournaments not only from Europe but also from the USA.
Sports Italia was the pioneer in airing poker events with the broadcast of the WPT. Then, Sky aired the EPT and the WSOP. Italians will be able to enjoy soon the Ultimate Poker Challenge, which will be also broadcasted on television.
This poker boom not only affects TV shows. Three months ago, the first poker site Italian-based was launched and till today there are 1,000 subscribers with over 90% of Italians. Actually, there are some Italians who are very well-known in the poker scene, such as the columnist Max Pescatori, the only Italian who won a WSOP bracelet Walter Farina, and others.
