India became the unlikely venue for the first international poker tournament held in
Asia, and because it was a great hit, the organizers have decided to hold a sequel in 2008.
Goa will again be the host of this Asian Poker Classic that turned out to be the richest ever poker competition held anywhere in India. March will also be the month but the venue hasn't yet been decided.
The previous poker bash drew in more than a hundred and forty poker enthusiasts from all over the world and they all fought it out for the grand million dollar pot. And, just like in many other poker tournaments, the eventual winner was not one of the glittering poker celebrities, but a previously unknown player from Denmark, Carl Hostrup. He managed to defeat experienced professional such as Mel Judah, Willie Tann and even the Indian favourite, Surinder Sunar. Carl took home a staggering three hundred and twenty thousand dollars!
Held at the Intercontinental resort on the Indian coast of Goa, the poker party was a huge success. Likewise, Indian poker fans will be hoping that the pot will increase for the next year and will reach the five hundred dollar mark for first prize. It is possible especially since this time even more online players will be able to win a seat by playing at one of the sponsoring online poker rooms.
