An auction of sports Souvenirs will be held tomorrow at Damons restaurant, Green Bay, Wisconsin. The auction will not include what considered as a treasure in the eyes of the Packers fans.
The owner of the Green Bay restaurant says he paid 20 thousand dollars for the pair of goalposts from the 1997 game in which the Packers beat the Patriots at the Superdome. One of the goalposts was torn into pieces that were sold as souvenirs. The other one was displayed in the entrances of the restaurant.
The unknown fact is that the goalpost presented in front of the restaurant is not the original one. After an attempt of stealing it, the former restaurant owner replaced it with an imitation. Eventually he decided to sell the original to the Oneida casino that used it in some of its promotions and finally stored it at the casino. The Stadium View sports bar owner Jerry Watson said he planned on bidding on the goalpost, until he heard it was not the original.
