Steel Beats Hawks

The Steelers were holding on to a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter, when the quarterback for the Seahawks threw an interception pass that sealed their fate. This interception coupled with the Steelers reverse pass they have been practicing all season clinched the game for the Steelers with a 21-10 win.

The Steelers have a love for trick plays, and it shows by how many they have in there playbook and with players like ward who also played quarterback in college and Randel El helps give the offensive coordinator plenty of room to really mix things up. Usually players hate practicing these kinds of plays because they are never used, but this time the practice paid off.

The Seahawks were the fist to put a score on the board with a 47 yard field goal with 22 seconds left in the first quarter, but it could have been worse. It would have been 7 points had the 17 yard touchdown pass previously not been called back due to Pass interference.

The Seahawks had dominated the Steelers in possession time until the Steelers cornerback took down the Seahawks Fullback leaving him 6 inches short of a first down. The balance of the game was shifting.

It was a modest little play at the time, but when Steelers cornerback Deshea Townsend cut down Seattle fullback Mack Strong, leaving him 6 inches short of a first down on a swing pass, the game found an equilibrium. The Seahawks had dominated time of possession to that point, and Roethlisberger had looked, well, like the 23-year-old quarterback he is. The Steelers' previous possession had ended on the Seattle 17-yard line when Roethlisberger threw an ill-advised pass intended for Randle El that was intercepted by Seahawks strong safety Michael Boulware.

On third and 6 on the Steelers 45 the QB dodged a defender and spotted his favorite receiver in the open. He tossed him a shovel pass for a quick 12 yards and 2 plays later with a man downfield he threw for a 20 yard pass.

The biggest play of the first half was a long third and 28 on the Seahawks 40 yard line. Figuring on a short 10 yard play to bring the Steelers into field goal range the Seahawks blitzed, flushing the Steelers QB out of the pocket when he spotted his favorite receiver in the open and put the ball up in the air. The receiver managed to get his hands on the ball for a 37 yard reception leaving them on the 3 yard line. But after 2 failed attempts the QB faked a handoff and kept the ball himself leaping over the pile for a touchdown making the score 7-3.

The pro-Steelers crowd that had been so docile for most of the half awakened with a deafening roar. And for the first time, you sensed that Seattle had squandered its decisive territorial advantage.

The Seahawks did manage to get the ball down to the Stealers 40 yard line with 48 seconds left in the half but could not score

Starting the second half on their 25 yard line the Steelers QB threw for an incomplete pass but on the next play a handoff run started with a great block was good for a Superbowl record of 75 yards made the score now 14-3

The Seahawks were now in trouble. They managed to get just into field goal range, but the kick was slightly wide to the left just grazing the left upright.

The Steelers were now in a position to burry the Seahawks until the Steelers QB under threw his receiver and the Seahawks defensive back caught the ball. He and his entourage managed to pull out a 76 yards run when he was tackled by a Pittsburg receiver, making it the breaking the longest run record in a Superbowl for a second time in 7 minutes

The Seahawks managed to put themselves back into it when their tight end was able to score a TD on the next play with a 16 yard touchdown pass making the game 14-10 with 6:45 left in the third quarter, But after the interception in the forth and the Steelers TD the Game was over Giving the Steelers franchise their fifth Superbowl win.
