In a scandal at the Tasmanian Government, a suspicion rise that Paul Lennon had received a bribe from the PBLs Crown Casino, just before declaring its intention to regulate PBLs partner, Betfair. Mr. Lennon continues to claim that the fact that he received an upgrade to a luxury room from PBL had nothing to do with his decision to make Tasmania the first territory to regulate Betfair.
According to Mr. Lennon, those accusations are part of a campaign against him, organized by his opponents. He claims that his decision to license Betfair will benefit the community, create new jobs and opportunities to new investments.
The scandal can lead to an early election. The Federal Labor member for Franklin, Harry Quick, says that deciding on early elections due to this situation can harm the Labor Party. According to the Deputy Police Commissioner, they were requested by the Green party to inspect the case.
