Rancho Mirage governors office keeps the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians from starting with their plan to build a residence hotel near Agua Caliente Casino. The tribe hoped to get started with the building of the hotel with its 14 to 16 stories, a 2,000 seat arena and a parking lot. In addition, they planned to add a floor to the Agua Caliente Casino, but the city officials ask them to hold the project in the meantime.
Rancho Mirage wants suggested the tribe leaders to discuss a new intergovernmental agreement. According to the proposed agreement, the city and the tribe will equally invest 7.5 million dollars in improving the road to the casino. The city also expects the tribe to donate the money and the land to develop a public safety center, including annual payments for the police and firefighters.
Tom Davis, the tribes chief planning officer, refused to comment on the citys requests. According to Davis, the tribe has passed all the terms set by the city officials, and he cannot find a reason for the delay in the approving process.
