Four Winds Casino Resort in New Buffalo Township is breaking ground after almost six years of delay. Four Winds Casino is owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and operated by Lakes Entertainment, Inc.
Four Winds Casino will include 3,000 slot machines, 90 table games and 20 poker
tables. The construction works on the casino project will start by during the month of June after the groundbreaking ceremony. The casino resort is predicted to be open by August 2007.
Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Tribal Chairman, John Miller said he hopes the new casino would benefit the Pokagon Band progress towards independence. The constructions work on the casino project will create about 1,000 new jobs, while the casino is expected to create about 2,000 permanent jobs.
Two percent of the casino revenue of slots machines will be dedicated to Local Revenue Sharing. Eight percent will go to the Michigan Strategic Fund. In addition, the tribe will distribute a portion of the casino profits to local communities around
New Buffalo Township.
