When Fidel handed the reins of Cuba to his younger brother Raul, many Cubans assumed things would stay the same as they have for the last 50 years. There was no celebrating in the streets and none of those who fled under Castro's leadership cam running back.
Just a few months latter and the people of Cuba are praising the changes the new El Presidente has made. So far the new leader has allowed many items formerly banned by Fidel, such as DVD players, Microwave ovens and even cell phones, as well as many other retail goods.
The country has also started giving away state owned lands to farmers so they may grow their own crops such as coffee and tobacco.
With all the changes happening so quickly many people are speculation on what will become of the ban on Online Gambling. Ever since the revolution in the 1950's Cuba has had a negative view on gambling and casinos, and tore down all of the privately owned casinos that used to bring in so many American tourists of the time. Cuba has had a ban on internet access in homes since 2004. At the time the government claimed that it was due to a lack of bandwidth in Cuba and they wanted to preserve it for schools hospitals and business use.
Currently the Caribbean is home to most of the most successful online casinos and Sportsbooks.
Experts are saying it would be a smart move for Cuba's hungry economy to get into the $15 billion dollar a year online gambling industry.
