According to experts in American Indian law, casino bids in Wisconsin are in risk, due to the Abramoff scandal in Washington D.C. regarding off reservation casinos.
Eric Eberhard, a Seattle lawyer with a vast experience in tribal casinos issues, said that off reservation casinos would not be approved in the next few years. The scandal that involves Jack Abramoff, a former lobbyist who has pleaded guilty to several federal charges including bribing of public officials and deceiving Indian tribes leaders.
The promoters of the three casino bids in Wisconsin claim they will continue in trying to receive an approval from the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Wisconsin casino bids include the Menominee tribes casino plan for Kenosha with estimated cost of 808 million dollars, a collaboration of Bad River and St. Croix Chippewa bands for a casino worth 200 million dollars in Beloit, and the Lac du Flambeau Chippewa tribes 110 dollars million casino plan in Shullsburg.
