About Blackjack Thanks for entering! Here, you will learn basic blackjack rules and start playing the game online in order to have real fun.
What is Blackjack? Blackjack is a game played against the house. The winning hand in blackjack is determined by the total number of points of all cards in the hand. To win the dealer, the player must have a total number of points that does not exceed 21, but is larger than the total of the dealers hand.
Cards 2 to 10 are worth their face value. All face cards are worth 10 points and aces can be counted as 1 or 11 as the player desires. Two initial cards that have 21 points (an ace and a 10 value card) are called blackjack. Blackjack is the highest hand in the game.
Before any cards are dealt, all players wager, placing their bets at the indicated area in front of their sitting position. After the bets are placed, the dealer deals two cards to each player and two for himself, while one of his cards is placed face up, so everyone can see its vale and the second one is placed face down. When all players play their hands, the dealer reveals his downcard and plays his hand.
Each player receives his turn, in which he may hit (receive an additional card), stand (receive no more cards and end his turn), double down (double his wager, receive one more card and finish his turn), split (divide his hand into two placing an additional wager, if there are two equal cards in his hand) or surrender (forfeit half of the wager and leave the game). In many casinos players are also allowed to place an insurance bet if the dealers upcard is an ace. Insurance bet is paid 2 to 1 if the dealer has a blackjack.
If the total of players points exceeds 21 it is called a bust. The player who busts immediately turns all his cards face down and loses regardless of the hand of the dealer. Winning busts is the only advantage given to the dealer, because ties (when the dealer and the player have equal number of points) are pushed, and neither player nor dealer wins any money.
In casinos, dealers must follow so called house rules that do not allow them to make any personal decisions during the game. Normally, the dealer must hit if he has 16 points or less and stand if he has 17 or more. Some tables have Hit Soft 17 rule, which obliges the dealer to hit if he has 17 points composed of an ace plus six points. Whether the dealer hits or stands soft 17 is indicted at each particular table.
